The Long Room
Trinity College Dublin is located in the heart of Dublin City Centre and is Ireland’s highest ranking University with over 18,000 students attending classes every week. The college was founded in 1592 and is home to some amazing sights ready for you to explore.
Entrance into the College’s grounds is Free and there are even tours that take place from just inside the main entrance off Dame Street.
The Old Libraries main chamber is known as the Long Room, and is nearly 65 metres long and filled with over 200,000 of the Library’s oldest books and clearly one of the most impressive libraries in the world. Built around the 1730s the library is stunning to behold with its wooden bookcases and marble busts of great philosophers and writers of the western world lining the walls.
The hand written ancient manuscript of four gospels of the Bible is housed within the Long Room at Trinity College. The Book of Kells is one of the most stunningly illustrated books for its time and is well worth seeing whilst in the college.
