The James Joyce Tower & Museum
Take the DART from Sandymount to Sandycove & Glasthule and walk approximately ten minutes towards Sandycove Point, home to the James Joyce Tower & Museum.
The Martello Tower is one of the most recognisable literary landmarks in Ireland. James Joyce stayed here in 1904 with Oliver St John Gogarty, and the Tower later became the setting for the opening episode of Ulysses. Today, the museum celebrates Joyce’s life and work, with a collection of books, photographs, personal possessions and other Joyce-related artefacts.
Admission is free, and the Tower is currently open Tuesday to Sunday from 10am to 4pm.
Discover Joyce’s Coast
Continue beyond the Tower to explore Sandycove and the Forty Foot, before making your way towards Dún Laoghaire. The coastline offers a wonderful combination of literary history, sea views and some of Dublin’s most characterful seaside neighbourhoods.
