1. The Clayton Hotel, previously Bewleys hotel and our neighbour, was originally built as a Masonic Female Orphan School! It opened in 1792 and closed its doors in 1972.
During the 1916 Rising, military authorities took over of the school and converted the premises into a temporary barracks, where some five or six hundred troops were quartered for about a fortnight.
In the early 70s, it was bought by the Royal Dublin Society, RDS, and it was renamed Thomas Prior House after one of their founding members. It was then bought by Burt Allen in the late eighties and converted to Bewley’s Hotel. In 2015, Bewley’s Hotel Ballsbridge became Clayton Hotel Ballsbridge as part of Dalata Hotel Group and has since upgraded from a 3-star hotel to a 4-star hotel.
2. Herbert Park, which is a 10 minute walk from the hotel, is named after Sidney Herbert, the father of the Earl of Pembroke who, in 1903, offered the site to Pembroke Urban District Council for development as a public park.
Taken over by Dublin Corporation in 1932 the 13 hectares (32 acres), are a fine example of how a relatively small park can provide a variety of amenities such as football, tennis, boules, croquet and children's play area, while at the same time fulfilling an important conservational role in the heart of the city and it also home to the Big Grill festival every August and a farmers market every Sunday from 11am.
3. Upcoming Events in the area include Leinster v Edinburgh on the 22nd of September Pro 14 rugby, 50 Cent will play the 3 Arena on 22nd of September, Arctic Monkeys will play the 3 Arena on the 24th and 25th of September, Shania Twain comes to the 3 Arena on the 26th and 27th of September and finally Cliff Richards will sing to a packed 3 Arena on the 29th of September.
4. Culture Night is back on the evening of the 21st September. Some of the biggest attractions in Dublin will open their doors free of charge to the general public. Places like the Guinness Storehouse, Christchurch Cathedral, Dublin Castle, Áras an Uachtaráin and many more will all open to the public with free entry. This is a great day to explore what Dublin has to offer. Go be a tourist for the night!Read more... InterContinental Hotel

You've said yes, told all your friends and family, and you both feel like you're on cloud nine, then you realise that you have to start planning your wedding.
As Wedding Experts, we understand it can be daunting and sometimes completely overwhelming. Everyone is sending you ideas and the wedding magazines are piled high but take a deep breath because our Wedding Experts have five top tips to help you plan your wedding.
Tip #1: Make a list
It sounds very basic, but it is extremely important to make a list of things that are important to you and your partner for your Wedding Day. Do you want a city located venue? Is natural daylight in the venue important? Do you prefer peonies over roses? By writing down aspects that are important to both of you, it will help reduced your stress levels and allow you to feel more in control.
Tip #2. Make a Mood Board.
Now that you have made your list, you can start researching how to implement these ideas. This is the fun bit, you can be as adventurous as you want. Our Wedding Experts advise that you create a Mood Board or a Scrapbook to compose all your research. You can do this online (Pinterest is a great application for this) or you can enjoy the good old fashioned style of printing, cutting and sticking all your ideas into a book.
Tip #3. Get inspired
You are beginning to visualise your wedding day, but it's important to be inspired. Go view venues, visit wedding dress shops, make a music playlist with songs you would both like to have played at the wedding, pop into a florist and smell the flowers that you picked for your mood board but most importantly, taste test the champagne and food offerings!
Tip #4. Make it your own
Everyone will be trying to help you decide on menu options, venues or the number of attendees but you and your partner need to make decisions together as a couple. It is your day and the most important factor is that everything that is chosen for your wedding is because you both love it.
Tip #5. Don’t forget the Honeymoon.
Whilst planning the wedding is exciting and important, do not forget about the Honeymoon. There will be times when planning the big day is stressful but if you book your Honeymoon in the early planning stages you will always have something to look forward to.Read more... InterContinental Hotel
