InterContinental® Dublin’s new Insider Experience: ‘Inside the Mind of Francis Bacon’

February 09, 2016

The luxury InterContinental Dublin® Hotel in Ballsbridge has announced a remarkable new offering in partnership with the prestigious Dublin City Gallery, The Hugh Lane. Taking guests Inside the Mind of Francis Bacon, the latest InterContinental Insider Experience in the expansive European portfolio gives unprecedented access to the life and works of the Irish-born British figurative painter known for his bold, emotionally charged and raw imagery.

Francis Bacon at InterContinental Dublin Dedicated to those who enjoy the glamour and exhilaration of fascinating places and fresh perspectives, InterContinental Dublin together with Dr Barbara Dawson, Director of The Hugh Lane Gallery will offer guests a private tour of Francis Bacon's studio along with exclusive access to the archive, where unseen material has been stored from the relocation of his original London studio. In 1998 Dawson secured the donation of Francis Bacon's studio from the artist's heir and commissioned a team to remove the studio with its entire contents from London to Dublin.

“Not a single detail was overlooked. We gathered every paintbrush, notepad, etching and personal artefact from Bacon’s personal studio to painstakingly replicate his working environment, exactly as it always had been.” explains Dr Dawson.

Available to guests staying in one of the sumptuous InterContinental Dublin’s Pembroke Suites, the bespoke experience begins with a Champagne reception (either in the Hotel or at the Gallery) and piano recital (for additional cost), before embarking on the ‘after hours’ tour hosted by Dr Dawson.  This intimate setting and showcase gives guests the rare opportunity to learn about the fascinating relocation project and to share a new perspective on modern day travel. The experience closes with a world-class Contemporary Irish menu, served at the hotel’s Seasons Restaurant, one of the most stylish spots to enjoy the wonderful art displayed in the hotel.

Clement Gaffney, General Manager at InterContinental Dublin says, “Our hotel displays one of the best collections of Irish contemporary art in the city. We’re very passionate about our heritage and enjoy sharing this with our guests, which is why we partnered with Dr Barbara Dawson at The Dublin City Gallery. The whole experience, from the Suite and fine dining at Seasons Restaurant, to the Gallery and opportunity to hear Barbara’s story is a veritable treat for art lovers and something truly special to experience whilst Dublin.”
